Project engineer/manager. Prepared a study which evaluated several off-site and on-site process wastewater treatment and disposal alternatives for a major bottling facility in an industrial park. The District’s stringent discharge requirements as well as high costs for connecting and discharging to the existing municipal system were a significant issue and consideration. One of the on-site alternatives considered anaerobic pre-treatment using an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor followed by aerobic treatment in a sequencing batch reactor system with discharge to the municipal system. In the end, SHW appealed to the County Board of Supervisors and was allowed to discharge the treated process wastewater onsite.
